F. O. Abiri Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) has given out food items and cash gifts to less priviledge and vulnerable in Ughelli metropolis.

The foundation which went round the different residents of the beneficiaries to hand them the items, which comprise rice, beans, garri, groundnut oil, onion, packets of maggi and cash, noted that the gesture was part of its ‘#I Feed Challenge” programme.

Speaking on behalf of the foundation and its Chairman, Mr. Stanley Abiri, the Delta State Coordinator, Comrade Omo-Ohwo Ijolo said the foundation aimed at giving hope to the hopeless in the society.

He said, “what we are doing as you can see is giving food items to these very poor and vulnerable in our midst. We decided to visit them in their homes to present the items to them due to the COVID-19 restrictions which is against gathering large crowds.

“The chairman of the foundation is not very rich but have decided to affect lives out of his little resources. This is why i want to use this medium to appeal to the well to do in our society to emulate this gesture.

“There are many suffering in our midst, especially with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, if every rich man in our society can reach out to at least ten persons within their environs, Nigeria’s rating as the poverty center of the world would be a thing of the past.

“I want to also note that this is just the first phase of what we are doing, we know that it is not enough to give fish but you must teach the people how to fish, so with time we will be embarking on various empowerment programmes to help the people become self sufficient.”

In their separate response, the beneficiaries all thanked F. O. Abiri foundation for the items, as well as the state coordinator for not holding back the items.

According to one of the beneficiaries, Yardi Sarah, an old woman in her 80s, who has recently lost her bread winner, the gesture by the foundation has brought fresh hopes for her and given her a reason to strive to continue to live on.
